Floods in Australia

Written By admin on Thursday, March 8, 2012 | 12:02 AM

Almost 9,000 people have been ordered to leave their homes in the town of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales as floods continue in southeast Australia. The Murrumbidgee river is predicted to peak at 10.9 m, sparking fears that the town's levee may be breached. Police, the military and the emergency services were all helping with the evacuation, local media said. Days of heavy rain have caused flooding across three Australian states and left at least two people dead.

Parts of Queensland and Victoria are also affected.

On Tuesday, emergency personnel and officials in Wagga Wagga said they were ''monitoring'' the rising water and the levee. The expected peak is higher than a major flood in the area in 1974, and reportedly the highest since 1844, Australian media said. Prime Minister Julia Gillard told reporters that military resources have been deployed and are standing by to render aid if necessary.

"We've got floodwaters across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria," she said. "For the people of Wagga particularly, this is a very anxious time."

Police have gone door-to-door in the town to encourage people to leave.

Floods across eastern Australia forced more than 13,000 people to evacuate their homes on Tuesday after record-high summer rains drenched three states over the past week, swelling rivers and forcing dams to overflow. In the worst-hit state of New South Wales, authorities ordered 8,000 people to leave their homes in the inland city of Wagga Wagga, where flood waters were expected to breach an 11-metre levee and swamp houses and the main business district.

Thousands of people in Wagga Wagga moved to shelter at local schools, while the centre of the town, home to around 60,000 people, was deserted on Tuesday. "If the levee is breached, we would expect significant inundation and we would expect that to happen very quickly," State Emergency Service Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch told reporters.

Heavy rains across Australia's east over the past week also prompted flood warnings in the northern Queensland state, and in Victoria, where residents in some small towns have been warned to prepare to evacuate if conditions worsen. Two people have been killed in flood waters over the past week.

The heavy rains filled Sydney's Warragamba Dam, which overflowed on the weekend for the first time in 13 years, while Canberra's Cotter Dam has filled with water spilling over a new dam wall currently under construction. The national government has made the military available to help with the floods, but said it was too early to determine the cost of damage or impact on the economy.

"It is impossible to quantify economic damage until the flood waters subside," Prime Minister Julia Gillard told reporters in Canberra. But the Premier of New South Wales Barry O'Farrell earlier said the damage bill could be as high as A$500 million ($530 million). The flood waters, however, will not have a major impact on Australia's major winter crops, which have already been harvested, the government's chief commodities forecaster ABARES said on Tuesday.

"Winter crop harvest was complete before the flooding happened," ABARES chief commodities analyst Jammie Penm told Reuters. "That's the largest crop component in Australian production. He said the rains could cause local damage to summer crops, such as sorghum, cotton and soybeans, but it was too early to make an assessment. "Some of the crops might not necessarily die when they submerge. Some of the crops can survive even after floods," he said.

"It is too early to make an assessment in preciseness, because we have to wait for the waters to subside."

In early 2011, Australia suffered disastrous floods which killed around 35 people, swamped 30,000 houses, wiped out roads and bridges and flooded coal mines, denting exports and economic growth. "Should the levee fail and the water enters the CBD and other areas in Wagga Wagga, then people need to be in the evacuation centre, not in their homes or businesses,'' said State Emergency Services deputy commissioner Dieter Geske.

Tens of thousands of people now living in evacuation centers. They are now threatened spread of disease acquired in the evacuation centers are filled with the refugees. Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) is looking for donors to help provide clean water and adequate sanitation for the survivors.

This situation is in need to fix this as soon as possible, to avoid disease outbreaks that will add to the difficulty of the victims who are hungry and lost family and friends, The disaster that struck the Philippines is regarded as the worst ever happen. UN to assess damage from the disaster itself is considered to be equivalent to the tsunami disaster.

Philippines hurricanes and floods Victims rises

Written By esperanza on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 | 10:16 AM

The number of victims of storms and flooding in the southern Philippines reached more than 1,000 people and rescue workers continued to search for the bodies of victims. Local officials said they expect the numbers will continue to rise in the coming days.

President Benigno Aquino who visited the affected areas in Mindanao island Tuesday (20/12), said officials have an obligation to find out why so many victims died and why there is no coordination of disaster management. "If we want this tragedy as the last one, we need to learn from our mistakes," Aquino said in a meeting in the coastal city of Cagayan de Oro.

He instituted this great floods a national disaster so there will be a special budget allocation for the handling of post-disaster. Tens of thousands of people who lost their homes still live in temporary refugee camps. The government conducts relief operations for an estimated 300,000 people affected by floods.

The BBC in Cagayan de Oro, one of the areas most severely hit by floods, said the food aid supply is sufficient, but the flood victims are in need of clean water and medicine.
'Cemetery worthy'

Funeral mass was conducted in a number of places and many of those angry because the corpses go unpunished. Mayor of Cagayan de Oro, Vicente Emano said the bodies removed from residential areas into one place vacant while waiting for decent burial place.

He told the AFP news agency that the DNA samples and fingerprints taken from the bodies before burial separately.

How Science is Improving Our Understanding of Nature

Written By esperanza on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | 11:21 PM

For centuries, scientists have engaged in research that has increased our understanding of nature and how natural forces work to create and sustain the world and universe we see today. The purpose of science is to follow a process of making careful and unbiased observations in order to generate knowledge about the world through tested theories based on the scientific observations. Although theories may not guarantee the absolute truth about a particular scientific theory, the idea is to get as close to an accurate approximation of the truth. The result will lead to a more accurate and credible understanding of how the natural world works.

Scientists seek to learn as much as possible about the nature of the world. By using intellect, the aid of scientific study devices, and formulated scientific hypothesis, scientists now have a better understanding of nature. For instance, the principles of motion and the law of gravity are applicable when studying other parts of the universe, even if we have yet to travel to these areas. The same principles can be applied to other forces such as seeking to understand ocean tides, bird migrations, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Scientists study patterns both in the natural world and in laboratories using technologically advanced research devices to gather data, take measurements, and make their observations and create their scientific theories. The result is an improved understanding of nature.

Science also helps us understand how we evolved. By studying such elements as fossils of species that once roamed the earth millions of years ago, various rocks and other matter located deep within the earth, skeletal remains of dinosaurs, and the remains of prehistoric man and early primates, scientists have made many significant discoveries about how we evolved. In fact, such famous scientists as Stephen Hawking, Carl Sagan, Albert Einstein, and Charles Darwin, have all contributed important theories and data that have brought us even closer to understanding how the universe emerged and developed.

How science has reconstructed the events in the history of the planet and its life forms have led to remarkable improvements and insight into how nature works. For instance, by studying the contours of the ocean floors, the shape of continents, the effects of a volcano eruption and earthquake, and where different fossils have been found, we get a better understanding of why our continents reside where they are and how human populations and species migrated and evolved to what we see today. We also get a better understanding of the results of the ice age and the effect it had on the types of species we have today. Understanding how the world evolved and the changes that took place also helps us to better understand current world problems such as the effects of Global Warming which is essential to finding ways to slow it down. By understanding how nature and its natural forces work, we are better able to come up with ways to manage the planet and its inhabitants.

Because science relies heavily on accurate and unbiased data, there is a constant development of advanced techniques and instruments which has lead to many astounding discoveries in the world and universe. For instance, the Hubble Telescope has resulted in many astounding discoveries about the stars, planets, black holes, and even far away galaxies. With advanced computer systems and other technologically advanced instrument, the future for scientific discovery looks bright concerning our understanding of the history of the universe and the history of life on earth.

"I personally want to see people happy in the new year, but I'm not sure about the western regions, where it is difficult to drain the water," said Yingluck told reporters in Bangkok when asked whether flooding will continue through 2012.

It is said Yingluck, Bangkok's eastern regions will likely be free from flooding before next year.

"The general situation is stable because of flood waters flowing into the sea, but how quickly the flood dries up depends on the contour of each region," said the younger sister of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is as reported by AFP on Tuesday (15/11/2011).

Currently almost all regions except Bangkok flooded the heart of Bangkok is the center of business and government. On November 14, yesterday, some residents had protested by blocking the main road. Residents angry that Bangkok's suburbs continue to flood while downtown Bangkok is free from flooding.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-Moon and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States (U.S.) Hillary Clinton, will visit Bangkok, to see the flooding that occurred in Thailand.

The visit was planned to take place next week. Both figures were intended to examine what is required by Thailand in order to overcome the crisis they are experiencing floods. So reported the AFP on Sunday (11/13/2011).

The epicenter is known to have a depth of 220 kilometers was recorded at 27.7 degrees north latitude and 125.9 degrees east latitude. The earthquake was located about 270 kilometers of the Diaoyu Islands, 480 kilometers from Taipei, and 520 kilometers from the city of Wenzhou in eastern Zhejiang Province.

TOKYO, An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale (SR) shook the waters of Okinawa Island, Japan, Tuesday (08/11/2011). However, there is no concern about the tsunami, the agency said the U.S. and Japan. The quake occurred in the East China Sea, 218 kilometers west of Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Earthquake sources exist at a depth of 222 kilometers.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage caused by the earthquake which occurred at 11:59 local time. Japan, located at the junction of four tectonic plates, has 20 percent of the strongest earthquakes recorded in the earth every year. The tsunami disaster on March 11 resulted in about 22,000 people dead or missing, and triggered a crisis in the nuclear power plant in Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power, in the northeast of the country.

MANILA - The earthquake that struck the southern Philippine city wounded at least 10 people and destroyed 25 homes and shops, said the rescue team, today. An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the small town of Valencia on Mindanao island on Monday and menghancurksn 23 homes, a hardware store and a grocery store in this town of 150,000 people, the local civil defense office said.

How and Why There Are An Earthquake

Written By esperanza on Monday, October 17, 2011 | 12:10 AM

An earthquake is a vibration or shocks that occur in the earth's surface due to the release of energy from the sudden that creates seismic waves. Ordinary earthquakes are caused by movement of the earth's crust (the Earth's plates). The frequency of a region, refers to the type and size of earthquakes in the experience during the period of time. The earthquake was measured using a seismometer.

Moment magnitude is the most common scale in which earthquakes occur for the entire world. rickter scale is the scale have been reported by the national seismological observatories in the measure on the local magnitude scale magnitude 5. the same scale over the range of their number is valid. earthquakes of magnitude 3 or more most of the nearly invisible and her seven great more potential to cause serious damage over large areas, depending on the depth of the earthquake. The largest earthquake of historic magnitude telahvlebih of 9, although there is no size restriction. The last major earthquake magnitude 9.0 or greater is a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in Japan in 2011 (as of March 2011), and it is Japan's biggest quake since records began. The intensity of vibration measured on the modified Mercalli Scale.

There Are 2 Types Of An Earthquakes :
  1. Volcanic earthquakes (Fire Mountain) This earthquake occurred as a result of magma activity, which usually occurs before the volcano erupted. If the higher activeness it will cause an explosion that will also cause earthquakes. The earthquake was only felt around the volcano.
  2. Tectonic earthquake: An earthquake is caused by tectonic activity, that is tectonic plates shift suddenly has the power of the very small to very large. This earthquake generated a lot of damage or natural disasters on earth, a strong earthquake vibrations can spread throughout the earth. Tectonic earthquakes are caused by perlepasan [power] that occurs due to plate tectonic plate shifts like a rubber band is stretched and released abruptly. Power generated by the pressure between the rocks known as tectonic disability. Theory of Tectonic plate (plate tectonics) explains that the earth is composed of several layers of rock, most areas of the crust layer it will drift and float in layers like snow. Stir gently so that the layer-break berpecah and collide with each other. This is what causes the occurrence of tectonic earthquakes.
Most earthquakes are caused from the release of the energy produced by the pressure carried by the moving plates. The longer the pressure was becoming enlarged and eventually reached the state where the pressure can not be detained again by the edge of the slab. That's when an earthquake will occur.

Earthquakes usually occur on the border of the plate slabs. The most severe earthquakes typically occur at plate boundaries compressional and translational. Focus earthquakes likely to occur because the material layer is sandwiched lithosphere into a phase transition at a depth of more than 600 km.

Several other earthquakes can also occur due to movement of magma inside the volcano. Such earthquakes can be a symptom of impending volcanic eruptions. Some earthquakes (rarely however) also occur due to accumulated an enormous mass of water behind the dam, such as the Caribbean Dam in Zambia, Africa. Others (also rare) can also occur due to fluid injection or akstraksi from / into the earth (eg in some geothermal power plants and in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Lastly, earthquakes can also occur from detonation of explosives. This can make scientists to monitor nuclear weapons tests conducted secret government. the earthquake that caused by humans is called also seismisitas induced

Does Indonesian Archipelago is The Atlantis Island

Written By esperanza on Saturday, October 15, 2011 | 7:47 PM

Atlantis is a legendary island first mentioned by Plato in his Timaeus and Critias. In his notes, Plato wrote that Atlantis lay "beyond the pillars of Hercules", and has a navy conquered Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately the year 9500 BC. After failing to attack the Greeks, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in just one night".

The island of Atlantis as is known is a mysterious island that has so far its existence is not known with certainty. Before we discuss why Indonesia is part of the lost island of Atlantis is missing. We must know the beginning of the Atlantis itself or the Early History At the island of Atlantis.

Atlantis is generally regarded as a myth created by Plato to illustrate political theory. Although the functions of Atlantis story clearly visible to most experts, they are debating whether and how much Plato's account was inspired by older traditions. Some experts say that Plato describes the events that have passed, such as the Thera eruption or the Trojan war, while others claim that he was inspired by contemporary events like the collapse of Helike the year 373 BC or the failed Athenian invasion of Sicily in 415-413 BC. (Source: id. wikipedia.org)

In the classical era of the lost island of atlantis is often discussed, but most of them do not believe it and sometimes make jokes. The story of Atlantis is less known in the Middle Ages, however, in the modern era, the story of Atlantis was rediscovered. And now are busy talking that Indonesia is part of the island or the lost city of atlantis.

There are dozens - even hundreds - the proposed location of Atlantis. Several hypotheses are archaeological or scientific hypothesis, while others are based on physics or other. Many of the proposals that have similar characteristics to the Atlantis story (water, major disasters, the relevant time period), but none has been demonstrated as the true story of the history of Atlantis.

Islands in Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula that we observe today is a relic that was sunk from the Lemurian continent of Atlantis, the high peak mountains of volcanic eruptions that became the volcanic islands of this region, the site of a true paradise in all ancient traditions. The submerged part of the continental area now forming the seabed is muddy and shallow in the South China Sea. This region is surrounded by Indonesia and forms the boundary between the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.

Then, as now, Indonesia formed the separation of the New World of the Ancient World, what the ancients (ancient / old) called Ultima Thule ("Ultimate Divide"? Separation Perfect). Thule is also related to what our parents named as the Pillars of Hercules, which according to Plato, is placed "right in front of Atlantis" (hyper ten Heraklei Nyssai).

Pillars of Hercules which is also the border who can not pass between the Old World and New World, also called East and West. Both are separated by an arc of volcanic islands in Indonesia, is really the limit of tectonic plates that make up the Old World and New World. Fortify this navigation, in the Atlantis also explicitly mentioned in the description of Plato and other ancient sources on Atlantis.

Is Indonesia a former kingdom of Atlantis? That's all back to what you see and believe

Does Bali earthquakes Will Spread Throughout The Others Indonesian islands

Written By esperanza on Friday, October 14, 2011 | 5:35 AM

The shock of the earthquake that occurred in Bali twice on Thursday, October 13 yesterday, causing 71 buildings on the island is corrupt. Public fear of earthquakes Bali will soon spread throughout the island in few days, this is because Indonesia is famous for the effects of successive earthquakes.

A total of 39 houses damaged inhabitants mild-moderate, 16 mild-moderate schools were damaged, slightly damaged four houses of worship, 7 slightly damaged a government office, two shops were slightly damaged, and 3 hospitals / health centers.

Previously, two earthquakes rocked Bali. The first quake occurred at approximately 10:16 pm with the strength of SR 6.8. Earthquake centers dotted in 143 kilometers southwest of Nusa Dua with coordinates 9.89 degrees south latitude and 114.53 degrees east longitude.

While the second quake occurred at 14:52 pm with the strength of SR 5.6. The point of the quake was at 9.76 LS, BT 114.53 or 131 kilometers badat power Nusa Dua, Bali.

There are an issues about the massive earthquake that will hit Jakarta, of course, geologists have a different view with psychics perspective. Geologists claim is difficult to predict when the time of the earthquake in a region, including to determine when Jakarta will be hit by a large magnitude earthquake.

A number of psychics predict there will be a more powerful earthquake followed by tsunami that hit Jakarta.

The sea ice is not only declining, it is becoming more drastic

Written By esperanza on Friday, October 7, 2011 | 10:03 PM

The sea ice is not only declining, the pace of the decline is becoming more drastic, The older, thicker ice is declining faster than the rest, making for a more vulnerable perennial ice cover. the continued low minimum sea ice levels fits into the large-scale decline pattern that scientists have watched unfold over the past three decades" said Joey Comiso, senior scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

Last month the extent of sea ice covering the Arctic Ocean declined to the second-lowest extent on record. Satellite data from NASA and the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at the University of Colorado in Boulder showed that the summertime sea ice cover narrowly avoided a new record low.

The Arctic ice cap grows each winter as the sun sets for several months and shrinks each summer as the sun rises higher in the northern sky. Each year the Arctic sea ice reaches its annual minimum extent in September. It hit a record low in 2007.

While the sea ice extent did not dip below the 2007 record, the sea ice area as measured by the microwave radiometer on NASA's Aqua satellite did drop slightly lower than 2007 levels for about 10 days in early September, Comiso said. Sea ice "area" differs from extent in that it equals the actual surface area covered by ice, while extent includes any area where ice covers at least 15 percent of the ocean.

This summer's low ice extent continued the downward trend seen over the last 30 years, which scientists attribute largely to warming temperatures caused by climate change. Data show that Arctic sea ice has been declining both in extent and thickness. Since 1979, September Arctic sea ice extent has declined by 12 percent per decade.

"The oldest and thickest ice in the Arctic continues to decline, especially in the Beaufort Sea and the Canada Basin," NSIDC scientist Julienne Stroeve said. "This appears to be an important driver for the low sea ice conditions over the past few summers."

Climate models have suggested that the Arctic could lose almost all of its summer ice cover by 2100, but in recent years, ice extent has declined faster than the models predicted.

Asteroid Caught Marching Across Tadpole Nebula

Written By admin on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 | 3:34 PM

This infrared image from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, showcases the Tadpole Nebula, a star-forming hub in the Auriga constellation about 12,000 light-years from Earth. As WISE scanned the sky, capturing this mosaic of stitched-together frames, it happened to catch an asteroid in our solar system passing by. The asteroid, called 1719 Jens, left tracks across the image. A second asteroid was also observed cruising by.

But that's not all that WISE caught in this busy image -- two natural satellites orbiting above WISE streak through the image, appearing as faint green trails. This Tadpole region is chock full of stars as young as only a million years old -- infants in stellar terms -- and masses over 10 times that of our sun. It is called the Tadpole nebula because the masses of hot, young stars are blasting out ultraviolet radiation that has etched the gas into two tadpole-shaped pillars, called Sim 129 and Sim 130. These "tadpoles" appear as the yellow squiggles near the center of the frame. The knotted regions at their heads are likely to contain new young stars. WISE's infrared vision is helping to ferret out hidden stars such as these.

The 1719 Jens asteroid, discovered in 1950, orbits in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The space rock, which has a diameter of 19 kilometers (12 miles), rotates every 5.9 hours and orbits the sun every 4.3 years.

Twenty-five frames of the region, taken at all four of the wavelengths detected by WISE, were combined into this one image. The space telescope caught 1719 Jens in 11 successive frames. Infrared light of 3.4 microns is color-coded blue: 4.6-micron light is cyan; 12-micron-light is green; and 22-micron light is red.

WISE is an all-sky survey, snapping pictures of the whole sky, including everything from asteroids to stars to powerful, distant galaxies.

Natural Disaster , God Warning For The World Let's Pray Together

Written By admin on Thursday, September 22, 2011 | 4:32 PM

Whether it be earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, tsunamis, fires, flooding, mud slides, Tornadoes, leads to financial, environmental or human losses. The resulting loss depends on the vulnerability of the affected population to resist the hazard. This understanding is concentrated in the formulation: "disasters occur when hazards meet vulnerability." A natural hazard will hence never result in a natural disaster in areas without vulnerability, e.g. strong earthquakes in uninhabited areas. The term natural has consequently been disputed because the events simply are not hazards or disasters without human involvement. A concrete example of the division between a natural hazard and a natural disaster is that the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was a disaster, whereas earthquakes are a hazard.

But Today here , i said from the deeps of my heart for you all reader who believe in God that What God Says Is More Real Than What we See, I don't care what is your religion , budhism , islam , Christian or others religion, lets pray together according to our own beliefs. Let's Ask for Forgiveness , apologizing for any mistakes we may forget, because we as humans do not escape from the wrong and sins.

The truth is that God is true to the description He has given, in His quotations of Himself speaking in the Holy Scriptures: He is pleased sometimes, and displeased sometimes; and He is always pleased by direct loving obedience, person to Person. Probably the best way to learn what He would have you do now and next, is to ask Him, and expect Him to deliver an answer you can recognize, and wait for it to come.

Let's pray together for the save of mankind , save the world for our grandchild and for all human in the world. if you have faith let's pray together
if you have god let's pray together
if you have a sense of humanity let's pray together

God Bless you All

Ameen

The Asteroid family that produced the dinosaur-killing asteroid

Written By admin on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 | 4:11 AM

The asteroid family that produced the dinosaur-killing asteroid remains at large. Evidence that a 10-kilometer (about 6.2-mile) asteroid impacted Earth 65 million years ago includes a huge, crater-shaped structure in the Gulf of Mexico and rare minerals in the fossil record, which are common in meteorites but seldom found in Earth's crust. In addition to the Baptistina results, the NEOWISE study shows various main belt asteroid families have similar reflective properties. The team hopes to use NEOWISE data to disentangle families that overlap and trace their histories.

This calculation was possible because the size and reflectivity of the asteroid family members indicate how much time would have been required to reach their current locations -- larger asteroids would not disperse in their orbits as fast as smaller ones. The results revealed a chunk of the original Baptistina asteroid needed to hit Earth in less time than previously believed, in just about 15 million years, to cause the extinction of the dinosaurs.

The NEOWISE team measured the reflectivity and the size of about 120,000 asteroids in the main belt, including 1,056 members of the Baptistina family. The scientists calculated the original parent Baptistina asteroid actually broke up closer to 80 million years ago.

"This doesn't give the remnants from the collision very much time to move into a resonance spot, and get flung down to Earth 65 million years ago," said Amy Mainzer, a co-author of a new study appearing in the Astrophysical Journal and the principal investigator of NEOWISE at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena. Calif. "This process is thought to normally take many tens of millions of years." Resonances are areas in the main belt where gravity nudges from Jupiter and Saturn can act like a pinball machine to fling asteroids out of the main belt and into the region near Earth.

Visible light reflects off an asteroid. Without knowing how reflective the surface of the asteroid is, it's hard to accurately establish size. Infrared observations allow a more accurate size estimate. They detect infrared light coming from the asteroid itself, which is related to the body's temperature and size. Once the size is known, the object's reflectivity can be re-calculated by combining infrared with visible-light data.

JPL manages and operated WISE for NASA's Science Mission Directorate. The spacecraft was put into hibernation mode after it scanned the entire sky twice, completing its main objectives. The principal investigator, astronomer Edward Wright, is at UCLA. The mission was selected compe

titively under NASA's Explorers Program managed by the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The science instrument was built by the Space Dynamics Laboratory in Logan. The spacecraft was built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. in Boulder, Colo. Science operations and data processing take place at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Caltech manages JPL for NASA.

You Thought NASCAR Was Fast ...? This Thing is 100 times Faster

Written By admin on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 4:54 PM

How fast can a NASCAR car really go?

Today, the fastest they can go is 202 mph. Currently with the restrictor plate carbs, they can go about 190, at tracks like Talladega and Daytona. Which they are tracks where you run wide open all the way around and is too fast for safety. Other tracks such as California (Auto Club Speedway) and Atlanta Motor Speedway they run about 200-205 mph.

A Nascar car can usually get up to about 200 miles per hour on a large track. However though, there is a thing called a restrictor plate that makes a Nascar car slow down. They use restrictor plates strictly as a safety matter so the car does not get thrown into the air because of all the air.

Well now what do you thing about Lightning....?

It is an atmospheric electrostatic discharge "spark" accompanied by thunder, which typically occurs during thunderstorms. From this discharge of atmospheric electricity, a leader of a bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of 140,000 miles per hour, and can reach temperatures approaching 54,000 Fahrenheit, hot enough to fuse silica sand into glass channels.

So what can you learn from a lightning ?

Origin of Dinosaur - Earth's greatest mysteries 1

Open the case on one of Earth's greatest mysteries Searching for the Origins of the Dinosaur-Killing Asteroid

Scientists think that a giant asteroid, which broke up long ago in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, eventually made its way to Earth and led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Data from NASA's WISE mission likely rules out the leading suspect, a member of a family of asteroids called Baptistina, so the search for the origins of the dinosaur-killing asteroid goes on.

According to that theory, Baptistina crashed into another asteroid in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter about 160 million years ago. The collision sent shattered pieces as big as mountains flying. One of those pieces was believed to have impacted Earth, causing the dinosaurs' extinction.

While scientists are confident a large asteroid crashed into Earth approximately 65 million years ago, leading to the extinction of dinosaurs and some other life forms on our planet, they do not know exactly where the asteroid came from or how it made its way to Earth. A 2007 study using visible-light data from ground-based telescopes first suggested the remnant of a huge asteroid, known as Baptistina, as a possible suspect.

Since this scenario was first proposed, evidence developed that the so-called Baptistina family of asteroids was not the responsible party. With the new infrared observations from WISE, astronomers say Baptistina may finally be ruled out.

"As a result of the WISE science team's investigation, the demise of the dinosaurs remains in the cold case files," said Lindley Johnson, program executive for the Near Earth Object (NEO) Observation Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "The original calculations with visible light estimated the size and reflectivity of the Baptistina family members, leading to estimates of their age, but we now know those estimates were off. With infrared light, WISE was able to get a more accurate estimate, which throws the timing of the Baptistina theory into question."

WISE surveyed the entire celestial sky twice in infrared light from January 2010 to February 2011. The asteroid-hunting portion of the mission, called NEOWISE, used the data to catalogue more than 157,000 asteroids in the main belt and discovered more than 33,000 new ones.

How is the Truth story of the Dinosaur Extinction........?

Tiny Asteroid Approaches Earth

Written By admin on Saturday, September 17, 2011 | 4:41 AM

Using the Marshall Space Flight Center 0.5 meter telescope in New Mexico, NASA astronomer Rob Suggs captured this view of the tiny asteroid 2010 TG19 as it made its way among the stars of the constellation Pegasus.

Taken before sunup on Oct. 15, the animated sequence shows the movement of the asteroid, then 4.25 million miles away from Earth, over 45 minutes. Only 75 yards across, 2010 TG19 is very faint at magnitude +18 , which is near the limit of the telescope. It will continue to approach during the next few days, finally coming within 268,500 miles of our planet, or almost as close as the moon, at noon EDT on Friday, Oct. 22.
